Grey Cup Odds: Toronto Favored Despite Falling In Week 1

The road to the 112th Grey Cup starts now, and all eyes are on the team that shocked the league last year. After pulling off a title run as major underdogs, the Toronto Argonauts are +400 favorites to repeat at Sportsbook despite dropping their season opener.

toronto argos open as grey cup favorites

The champs are back—and this time, the sportsbooks are ready. After winning last year’s Grey Cup as 9.5-point underdogs, the Argos head into the 2025 CFL season as +400 favorites. But, I'm shocked to still see them there after being blown out in Week 1, 28-10, in Montreal. Nick Arbuckle looked okay, going 20-for-32 and hitting 271 yards. But, he couldn't capitalize, throwing two interceptions and a fumble.

Chad Kelly, still recovering from his fractured leg, is expected to return early in the season. Perhaps that's the hope that sportsbooks are holding out for. Toronto's defense was the difference last year. Overall, it allowed a middling 26.6 PPG but pulled through in the Grey Cup matchup with the Argos forcing four interceptions in the title game and holding Winnipeg to just seven first downs. That same core returns, along with head coach Ryan Dinwiddie. Like I said, these defending champions are looking very similar and ready to compete for back-to-back titles in November.

This season’s Grey Cup, which is Canadian football’s Super Bowl, will be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba at Princess Auto Stadium, the home of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The 112th title will be given out on Sunday, November 16th, 2025.

With another championship in 2024, the Argos now have 19 Grey Cups in their trophy case, the most by any team in the league. The Edmonton Elks, despite winning just once in the last decade, have the second-most with 14. The Bombers, whose recent back-to-back wins boosted their total championships to 12, have appeared in 29 Grey Cups – the most of any team.
